C. S Lewis is a famous British author and acclaimed theologian. In his work, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," he captures the mystery of a lamppost in the forest.
There were four siblings - Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy - who discovered a magical land called Narnia during World War II. While exploring Narnia, Lucy found a lamppost standing alone in the forest, lit without any apparent source of power.
The Lamppost symbolizes guidance, hope, and redemption, serving as:
A guide for Lucy through the forest
A marker of the entrance to Narnia
A reminder of Aslan's presence and power
Jesus is the true lamppost that directs to heaven. We are called to become lampposts that guide people to Christ. The parable explicates Christ, who is our way to heaven.
C.S. Lewis' parable of the lamp is paramount to understanding Jesus’ message on the role of disciples in building God’s Kingdom. Each one of us is a lamppost of the eternal light to shine forth the values of the Kingdom.
How do I shine forth values to dispel the darkness of the world? The purpose of a lamp is not just to give light, but to dispel darkness. A light that does not dispel darkness is like a lamp without a flame.
We can't be a lamp until we are willing to sacrifice like a candle.
Each lamp has a different purpose - one lamp is lit to light a house, another to light a hall, and another to light a street. We are called to identify our purpose of being a lamp.
